Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Colorado Bend State Park is known for its scenic beauty, crystal clear waterfalls, and abundance of trails. The park boasts over 35 miles of hiking trails, with varying levels of difficulty to suit all types of hikers. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a challenging hike, there’s something for everyone at Colorado Bend.

One of the highlights of the park is the Colorado River, which runs through the park and provides ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. When it comes to camping, Colorado Bend State Park has plenty of options for backpackers. The park offers primitive backpacking sites, which are only accessible by foot. There are two primitive areas – the river area and the windmill area. The trail was short and flat to hike in to the river area. These sites are a true backpacking experience, as they have no amenities (including no bathrooms) and require campers to pack in and pack out all of their gear. Its totally worth it to enjoy the seclusion and serenity of these sites.

But the real star of the show at Colorado Bend State Park is the Gorman Falls. This hidden gem is a 70-foot waterfall that can only be accessed by a moderate hike of about 3 miles round trip. Be aware that the last little bit of this trail is steep and slick so be sure to hold on. The trail winds through the Texas hill country, passing by limestone cliffs and rocky outcroppings. It’s a bit of a workout, but trust, the view is worth it.

So if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, pack your bags and head to Colorado Bend State Park. Happy hiking!
