One of the highlights of the park is the Colorado River, which runs through the park and provides ample opportunities for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. There are two primitive areas – the river area and the windmill area. The trail was short and flat to hike in to the river area. These sites are a true backpacking experience, as they have no amenities (including no bathrooms) and require campers to pack in and pack out all of their gear. Its totally worth it to enjoy the seclusion and serenity of these sites.

But the real star of the show at Colorado Bend State Park is the Gorman Falls. This hidden gem is a 70-foot waterfall that can only be accessed by a moderate hike of about 3 miles round trip. Be aware that the last little bit of this trail is steep and slick so be sure to hold on. The trail winds through the Texas hill country, passing by limestone cliffs and rocky outcroppings. It’s a bit of a workout, but trust, the view is worth it.
